ELECTROPLATING

Bright Nickel

Nickel plating is the process of electrolytically depositing a layer of nickel onto the surface of a material. It is commonly used as a base layer because it has a levelling effect on pits or other defects in the base material.
Nickel plating has a variety of applications and is often used for car & motorbike parts to improve their appearance, as well as offer corrosion protection and wear resistance.

Copper

Copper plating is an electrochemical process in which a layer of copper is deposited of the surface of a material.  It provides wear and corrosion protection and is used in certain circumstances by V&G as an effective barrier/build-up between the base material and subsequent deposits of nickel & chrome (often referred to as a “triple plate”).

Bright Chrome

Chrome plating is a metal coating procedure which creates a thin layer of chromium on the surface of a material.  Decorative chrome plating used by V&G employs a layer of nickel with a layer of chrome added on top of it.  The chrome layer helps increase the corrosion resistance but also improves resistance to scratching as well as general wear and tear.

Electroless nickel plating (ENP)

Electroless nickel plating (ENP) is a chemical or auto-catalytic process.  Unlike electroplating it does not require an electric current to be run through the solution to form a deposit. Electroless nickel plating has advantages over electroplating the most relevant of which for the engineering industry is that it provides an even/uniform deposit.

Zinc

Zinc plating is a popular process which is used to protect metals from corrosion at a cost-effective price. It has a wide variety of applications throughout the engineering industry and is often used by our car & motorbike enthusiasts to protect those parts found “underneath” or within the car/motorbike (such as nuts, bolts, fixings, brake calipers, pipes etc.)
We provide a range of passivates, including:

Clear/Blue: Provides a light iridescent blue colour.
Colour/Yellow: Provides a yellow colour.
Trivalent: A Rohs compliant alternative to our yellow passivate.
Black:  Provides a deep black to greenish-brown colour as the finish breaks down over time.

Anodising

Anodising increases resistance to corrosion and wear and provides better adhesion for paint primers & glues.
